Or the sword/lance lord, but just something about four monstrous creatures sprinting acorss the table might be worth it. Would certainly give the enemy pause.

I do intend to crank out more Eldar Unit Evaluations. Mostly, it's the idea that FTW has some holes in their Eldar advice, so I'll eventually be plugging those. The Wraithlord is just a bit easier to use.Raptor1313https://www.blogger.com/profile/16909802419382710809noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3111360555104006558.post-60573870497366118162009-07-14T17:16:49.642-05:002009-07-14T17:16:49.642-05:00As ever, I am actually glad that someone pokes and...As ever, I am actually glad that someone pokes and prods the tactica bits I throw up. It makes 'em a bit sharper. Thus, some of the points you've brought up have been edited in.
Well, I do have a small advantage in that I helped write the Warseer tactica. So I've already put some brainpower into the ideas. I'd actually contemplated using some of those articles for my own blog... but I think I'm not going to. They're fairly widely published now, I'm finding new things to write on, and I'm enjoying reading what your take and adding to it. So do more! :-p

I think that scatter laser/EML is still decent enough vs. light armor Agreed. The Scatter Laser is actually one of the Eldar's most efficient anti-tank for AV 10 or 11. It beats out the EML even. I just question dedicating a Wraithlord for this when there's so many other places you can get this from. Compare 135 points of Wraithlord to 135 points of Warp Spiders and tell me which you'd rather hunt Rhinos with. (Of course, Eldar choices are always contingent on the rest of your build and this isn't meant as a catch-all.)

The Sword-Lord is a point I've missed. I usually play 1850, though, and at that point level I don't think a Sword Lord is necessarily that scary.
I usually play 1750 and you'd be surprised how scary they still are. 3 Swordlords and an Avatar running up a flank can do a surprising amount of damage. Try it some time if only for the giggles.

Actually, that reminds me of one more thing...issues with Fearless.
Ah yes, good old No Retreat! That's why you don't run them in conjunction with Guardians...

As to Vendettas, I find the simple solution is just to bump the table and then blame it on the gaming store kid. Those things are so overbalanced with cheddar that they almost always fall over. :-p (Valkyries and Vendettas are one of my only issues with the new IG, but I've been working on ways to deal with them.)Dverninghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18098608506710554678noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3111360555104006558.post-62035115161077559212009-07-13T20:58:21.710-05:002009-07-13T20:58:21.710-05:00Yeah...Vendettas light the hell out of them.
Of c...Yeah...Vendettas light the hell out of them.

Of course, it's not hard to see that the Vendetta is awesome-sauce period. Make it 140 for some heavy bolter sponson love, and honestly? It's one of the nastiest gun platforms in the game, given versatility. It's not FAST, but it carries its own cleanup squad. "Oh, I blew up your transport. Eat flamery death from the veterans inside!"

...makes me wish I could get 2-3 twin-linked bright lances on my Wave Serpent.Raptor1313https://www.blogger.com/profile/16909802419382710809noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3111360555104006558.post-73931448848789417822009-07-13T16:24:34.290-05:002009-07-13T16:24:34.290-05:00Pretty good review Raptor, but perhaps more should...Pretty good review Raptor, but perhaps more should be made of the fact that a Vendetta is cheaper, and has better than average odds of killing you in one round. :)TheKing Elessarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04981821487098781957noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3111360555104006558.post-12337595053434465052009-07-12T17:35:40.348-05:002009-07-12T17:35:40.348-05:00As ever, I am actually glad that someone pokes and...As ever, I am actually glad that someone pokes and prods the tactica bits I throw up. It makes 'em a bit sharper. Thus, some of the points you've brought up have been edited in.

I never CAN remember if it's a damned one or six. I just know there's a 1/6 chance the thing drools for the turn when I don't need it to. I mean, the one time I let three of them out of psyker range, two of them flubbed wraithsight.

I think that scatter laser/EML is still decent enough vs. light armor (...mostly like, oh, Rhinos or flank shots on Chimeras) but it's still more geared towards nailing things with wounds instead of armor value. I used a couple so-kitted in the prototype triple-lord build I used not too long ago, though it featured four serpents with TL Lances and Shuriken Cannons, with 2 units of Fire Dragons and two units of Dire Avengers.

The Sword-Lord is a point I've missed. I usually play 1850, though, and at that point level I don't think a Sword Lord is necessarily that scary. But, at 1,000, 3x Sword-Lord + Avatar probably means you're ruining someone's day (unless they can outrun you.) unless they've got poison or lots more heavy weapons than you'd expect in 1,000 points.

For the sword/BL lord, he's certainly a possibility. Like you, though, I'd rather go for a more ranged build. He's cheaper than a ML/BL 'lord, but if I'm going to pop shots and try to kill vehicles I'd rather have two S8 shots than one.

I also think that in general, the sword is helpful, but won't make THE difference in terms of the Wraithlord's melee problems. I mean, say you get hit by 7 plague marines with a powerfist. Give them the charge, and you squish one. Powerfist guy swings 3 times, probably slaps a wound on you. Tie combat. You trade wounds, and they win overall.

Actually, that reminds me of one more thing...issues with Fearless.Raptor1313https://www.blogger.com/profile/16909802419382710809noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3111360555104006558.post-13954462741116124952009-07-12T13:34:10.701-05:002009-07-12T13:34:10.701-05:00A few items:
1. Wraithsight is on a 1, not a 6.
2....A few items:
1. Wraithsight is on a 1, not a 6.
2. Obscuring the Wraithlord means covering 50% of the model, not just the torso. (Technically it's head, arms, legs and torso, but not back spines or weapons, same as for Infantry.) Since this now includes the legs, it's a *little* easier.
3. Taking two of the same weapon only applies to Heavy weapons, not the Flamers or Shuri-Cats.
4. It's probably worth noting that the Shuri-Cats are useless and that Flamers are the only real choice.
5. I never bother with EML/Scat as that's a anti-infantry build. The Eldar list abounds with anti-infantry and the Lord has his secondary weapons (Flamers) for backup. It's a viable option, but is an additive rather than a compliment to most lists.
6. I think it's worth noting the cheapness and efficiency of a Swordlord. You can get three and an Avatar for 455 points; truly game-breaking at a 1K event. When only given a Sword, you can also Run them with impunity.
7. Sword/BL is another reasonable build for the player who needs a bit more ranged anti-tank, but knows their list is going to need some extra CC. I still prefer the pure builds though.

Cheers and thanks for the good write up!Dverninghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18098608506710554678noreply@blogger.com
